And now I remember why I don’t shop there. I tried to buy two items which had instant rebates or whatever they call them. Neither discount showed up until I was about to check out, and then I noticed that only one of them was discounted. I called an employee over and explained the situation and then she sauntered off. I assume it was to go over and verify the price, but no, it was only to get a sale flyer.
She wandered back over and then informed me that the batteries I was buying were not on sale. No, she didn’t bother to go over and look at the display and verify the price, and instead just said no, they weren’t on sale. Wrong answer. I said ‘screw it’ and left my full cart for her to deal with. On my way out I did go verify that the price was discounted on the display.
And no, I didn’t bother to renew my membership when the message popped up at the register. Any store where almost every employee seems stressed out and displays an IDGAF attitude is not worthy of my money. The friend for whom I bought this membership died recently, so my not renewing isn’t affecting anyone else.
I hear that they’re closing a number of locations, and except for people losing their jobs (that they don’t seem to care about) I’m OK with this. Good riddance, Sam’s.

I always had a Sam’s membership prior to moving to Oregon. Upon moving here, I visited Costco for the first time. I’ll never set foot in a Sam’s again. Costco is what Sam’s would be if anyone at all in the corporation gave a single, solitary f**k.

The idea of buying a membership just so you could buy from a retail store always struck me as stupid. I’ve never had any Costco, sams club of any other of these faux-club retailers

I agree. Costco proves that “ budget-friendly” and “thoughtful” aren't mutually exclusive.

When you’re talking about Costco at least and the savings in gas alone the cost is more than made up for.
Buying in bulk is cheaper. But it's not for everyone.

I don’t shop at Wally World or Sam’s Club. Turns out that when you don’t pay people shit, they don’t give a shit.

I love Sam’s. I don’t use it for everything, but it’s served me well, and the folks in my local stores treat me well.

Yep. And they occasionally wipe off the tables in the dining area!

Maybe it’s because of my location, but everyone at the local Sam’s is very nice. Meanwhile, the Costco is always packed and rude; it’s perched atop a hill with no advertising, yet it’s always busy.

In the post apocalyptic world of the near future, w e’ll see who laughs last when I control the world’s last remaining supply of toilet paper.
The masses will come crawling, the accumulated filth of all their waste will foam up around their waists and you all will look up and shout, “Save us from our poopy buttholes !”...and I’ll look down and whisper, “No. ”

I mean, it’s Walmart, so I wouldn’t expect much more than abject apathy from employees. They start at like $10/hour I think, which really isn’t enough to give a shit about the job. My give a shit threshold starts at $12.

Can confirm, worked at Sam’s club for a few months stocking overnight, absolutely terrible place to work. Only job I’ve ever been fired from and since I was about to quit anyways and was honestly just so completely ecstatic that that meant I could just go home I didn't even ask why just signed their stupid papers and danced my way out the door.

I strongly prefer Costco, but sadly the second largest city in NM only has a Sam’s club. I’d have to drive to the East side of El Paso for a Costco, which would be an hour plus trip versus five minutes.
